Oscar Rodriguez

With Colombian origin, a sparkling character and charisma charm-dreamer, Oscar Rodriguez is with no doubt a real vehicle for dreams and joy, this for the greatest happiness of his spectators. Passionnated by drawing since the age of 5, he is as well guitarist, singer, bassist and percussionist. Oscar settled down in Switzerland in 1979, at the age of 17. As professional musician he in parallel designs in the hyper - realistic style, seeking for the 3D effect. He work with extreme precision and realises his drawings based upon pictures. He draws daily scenes, landscapes, objects, portraits and nudes using several techniques, lines and dots « pointillisme », using coal and lead and give the impression that his subjects get out of the paper. His secret to realize this effect is using all sources of light. In the late 70s, he made gone into color, working with various materials as well as sculpturing. He then returned to the drawing with even higher conviction and decided to make the design his « Art Major », considering that he was no longer in the studying phase, sketching, but realizing an accomplished work. While drawing he created the « Oscar Rodriguez Band », in 1984.

He composed the entire music, ensured the promotion and fame for the band of 14 musicians. He then founded further successful orchestras such as Girasol, Almendra, Santa Barbara, Oscar's Angels and Arena and composed music for films, theater, dance and shows. He won the International Composition Award for contemporary music of the city of Bordeaux in 1989. In 1999, he developed a modern center of musical education, the "Maison de la Musique" in Pully in Switzerland and managed the same for 7 years. Starting off as Latin-jazz musician, he evolves in his musical quest of cultural influences in perpetual search for innovations. In collaboration with Habib Faye, the music he produced under the name "Oscar and Friends", clearly demonstrates the kind of musical fusion and the harmony of sound achieved with distinct origins, namely, Africa and Latin America. In recent years, Oscar had the great honor and pleasure to perform on stage with: Bernard Lavilliers, Willie Colon, Arturo Sandoval, Marcus Miller, Habib Faye, Toure Kunda, Diego el Cigala, Cheikh Lô, Vivian N'Dour, Carlos Santana, Randy Crawford, Claude Nobs, Chic, Nils Rodgers, Tower of Power, Larry Corryell, Mike Oldfield, Sally Oldfield, Veronique Sanson, Gipsy Kings, Pepe Felly, Jair Rodrigues, Souleman Faye, Baba Mall, Earl Thomas and many others.
